Set up Shopify conversion tracking (via the app)

Overview

The recommended flow for setting up Shopify conversion tracking is via the Realize platform. If that option is not available, follow the steps on this page.

Before you start

Did you previously install the pixel?

If you previously installed the Taboola pixel in Shopify yourself, make sure to remove any existing scripts before installing the app. See: Remove legacy integration code from Shopify

Install the pixel via the Taboola Pixel app

  1. Log into your Shopify dashboard.

  2. In a new browser tab, open the Taboola Pixel app listing in the Shopify marketplace.

  3. Click on Install.

  4. Once the installation is complete, Shopify will open the Taboola Pixel app for you:

    (You can also open the app yourself, via the Apps node in the sidebar.)


  5. Click on Get started:

  6. Enter your numeric Taboola Account ID, and click on Install to install the pixel.

  7. In the Shopify dashboard, select Settings (bottom, left), then Customer Events.

  8. Verify that Taboola Pixel is present, and has a status of Connected:

Set up Shopify events in Realize

Now that you have installed the pixel (previous section), your store will begin passing events to Taboola.

In order for Taboola to process these events, you need to set up matching conversions in Realize.

IMPORTANT

Failure to cater for the cases below may result in conversions going untracked.

  1. Review your privacy and cookie banner settings.
  2. If you are using an upsell app, additional steps are needed to track those events:
    1. If your upsell app uses a post-purchase page, see: Post purchase upsell page

  3. Finally, verify that events are being received in Realize, for all relevant funnels.
