Getting started
Overview
This portal contains all the instructions you need to set up conversion tracking for your Taboola campaigns. Choose the integration method that best fits your technical setup and business needs.
2 high-level strategies
There are 2 primary approaches to conversion tracking:
- Taboola pixel (client-side) - a small code snippet on your web page sends conversion data.
- Server to server (S2S) - your server or other trusted platform (e.g. an MMP) sends conversion data.
Tips
- For more complete conversion data, use dual tracking (both pixel and S2S).
- Even when using S2S only to track conversions, consider installing the base pixel.
This helps Taboola to optimize your campaigns.
- Unsure where to start? Try starting with Google Tag Manager and codeless conversions.
These are typically the easiest to set up.
Taboola pixel (client-side)
The Taboola pixel is the recommended tracking method for most advertisers. It provides comprehensive data collection and supports advanced features like retargeting and audience building.
Codeless integration
Set up conversion tracking without touching code. Perfect for marketers and non-technical users who want to track button clicks, form submissions, and page visits.
Google Tag Manager
Install the base pixel via Google Tag Manager
Recommended if you already use GTM for tag management. Provides flexibility and doesn't require direct code changes to your website.
Shopify
Dedicated Shopify integration that automatically tracks standard e-commerce events like purchases, cart additions, and checkouts.
WordPress
Easy-to-install plugin for WordPress site owners that handles both base pixel installation and conversion setup.
Manual integration
Install the base pixel manually
For developers who prefer direct code implementation or need custom integration approaches.

Server to server (S2S) tracking
In general, there are 3 methods for S2S tracking. Choose the method that best fits your needs:
- Manual S2S - for redundancy with pixel tracking, or implementing custom solutions.
- MMP platforms - for app events and mobile conversions.
- Third-party platforms - if you are already using a specialized tracking platform.
Manual S2S
When to use manual S2S?
- Conversions occur off your website e.g. CRM events, offline sales, etc.
- Pixel-based tracking is not feasible.
- For redundancy with pixel tracking and more complete data (best practice).
