Creative Statuses
A creative has its own status, separate from the status of the ads created from it. The creative status is set by the system and cannot be changed through the API.
| Status | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
ACTIVE | The creative is available in the library and can be assigned to campaigns. | A new creative is created with this status. |
CRAWLING | The creative's media is being processed. | The creative is read-only while crawling: an update returns 400 (Cannot update instruction while crawling). Poll the creative until it returns to ACTIVE. |
NEED_TO_EDIT | A required field is missing or invalid (for example a title or thumbnail that failed processing). | The creative cannot be assigned to a campaign until it is fixed: creating an ad from it returns 400 (Cannot create item from a creative in NEED_TO_EDIT status). Update the missing field to return it to ACTIVE. |
TERMINATED | The creative was deleted. | Every ad created from it was stopped. The creative can no longer be read, updated or assigned; requests return 404. |
Creative status vs. ad status
- A creative never serves. Its status only controls what can be done with it in the library.
- Each ad created from the creative is a campaign item with its own item status (
RUNNING,PENDING_APPROVAL,PAUSED,REJECTED, and so on) and its own approval state. Review happens per ad, per campaign. - To see the status of the ads created from a creative, list them from
ads.adsin Get a creative and read each with Get a campaign item. - Pausing, activating or deleting an ad changes the ad only. Deleting the creative stops all of its ads.
Filtering by status
Get all creatives accepts a statuses query parameter with one or more of the values above, for example:
GET /backstage/api/1.0/demo-advertiser/creatives?statuses=ACTIVE,NEED_TO_EDIT
