Taboola pixel - End-to-end flow

1. Add the base pixel.

2. Add event pixels (or URL-based conversions).
3. Verify your setup.

Overview

This page explains how to add the Taboola base pixel via Taboola Ads. Using this method, Taboola Ads will set up the relevant tag in GTM (Google Tag Manager) for you.

Before you start

Before you start, make sure that:

1. You can access your team's Google Tag Manager account with publish permissions.
2. Google Tag Manager is installed on your webpages.

   (As a quick check, search for the text "GTM" in the page source.)

Installation

High-level flow

1. Confirm that GTM is present on your webpage.

   (As a quick check, search for the text"GTM" in the page source.)

2. Using Taboola Ads, add the tag to GTM.

   (As described below)

3. GTM automatically inserts the Taboola Pixel tag on your landing page.

   (No action is needed on your end.)

1. Open Taboola Ads, and select the TRACKING tab (top).

2. Click on Account Tracking Setup (top, right).

3. Select Google Tag Manager and click Continue.

4. Click on Click To Connect.

   This connects Taboola with GTM, so that Taboola can create the Taboola pixel tag.

   
   

5. A Sign in with Google pop-up appears. Sign in with the relevant Google Account:

   

6. Grant Taboola Ads the relevant permissions to update GTM via your Google Account:

   

7. Select the relevant Account, Container and Workspace in GTM.

8. Tip: To switch to a different GTM account, click on the Switch Accountbutton:

   

9. Click on Save to add create the Taboola pixel tag and save it in GTM.
   Or click onSave & Create Conversion to both save and begin creating your first conversion.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Clicking on Save brings up the following error:

Taboola Pixel creation failed Failed to perform GTM action. Stage: Failed to create template

Cause

Your Google Account does not have edit permissions for your team's Google Tag Manager (GTM).
