Taboola WordPress Plugin

WordPress Plugin > Installation and usage

Overview

The Taboola WordPress Plugin provides a convenient way to integrate Taboola recommendations into your WordPress pages.

Getting started

In order to get started, you'll need a Taboola account.

Installation

  1. In WordPress Admin, select Plugins (left).
  2. Click on Add New (top).
  3. In the search box provided (top, right) type in "Taboola" and tap Enter.
  4. Install and then activate the Taboola plugin.

Usage

General Settings

  1. Open the WordPress Admin dashboard.
  2. Select Taboola in the sidebar (left) to open your Taboola plugin settings.
  3. Under General settings, fill in your Taboola publisher_id, as provided by Taboola.

📘

Your Publisher ID is a unique, alphabetic String - e.g."<<publisherID>>".

Below-article unit

To apply your below-article unit:

  1. Open the WordPress Admin dashboard.
  2. Select Taboola in the sidebar (left) to open your Taboola plugin settings.
  3. Enable the below-article section, using the toggle switch (top, right).
  4. Fill in the unit settings:
  • Mode (aka Widget ID):
    • Fill in the below-article mode, as provided by Taboola.
  • Placement Name:
    • Fill in the below-article placement, as provided by Taboola.
    • The placement name displays in Taboola reporting.
    • It can also be used to activate specialized layouts e.g. Taboola Feed.
  • If you would like Taboola to apply a Read More button, select the checkbox provided.

  1. Click on Apply changes (bottom, right).
  2. If no errors are reported, browse to your website and verify that the unit displays correctly.

Read More

Read More buttons can boost audience engagement significantly, especially on mobile devices. By shortening the viewable content, below-article units become more visible, encouraging interaction.

To enable Read More

  1. Select the checkbox provided to position the feed/widget just after the article.
  2. Apply changes - then browse to an article and verify that your below-article unit displays correctly.
  3. Contact the Taboola team to enable the Read More user experience.

Mid-article unit

To apply your mid-article unit:

  1. Open the WordPress Admin dashboard.
  2. Select Taboola in the sidebar (left) to open your Taboola plugin settings.
  3. Enable the mid-article section, using the toggle switch (top, right).
  4. Fill in the unit settings:
  • Mode (aka Widget ID):
    • Fill in the mode, as provided by Taboola.
    • The mode determines the layout of your mid-article unit.
  • Placement Name:
    • Fill in the placement, as provided by Taboola.
    • The placement name displays in Taboola reporting.
    • It can optionally be used to activate specialized Taboola products and layouts.
  • Paragraph:
    • Fill in the paragraph number to target.
    • E.g. to target the 5th paragraph, fill in 5.
  1. Click on Apply changes (bottom, right).
  2. If no errors are reported, browse to your website and verify that the unit displays correctly.

Right-rail unit

Overview

The Taboola WordPress Plugin also supports a right-rail (aka sidebar) unit.

The right-rail unit is configured separately to the others.

First steps

  1. Before you start, make sure to fill in your Publisher ID.

    See General Settings (above).

Configuration

  1. In the WordPress Admin dashboard, select Appearance > Widgets in the sidebar (left).
    • This opens the WordPress interface for inserting custom widgets.
    • If the Widgets option is not present, then it is not supported by your WordPress theme.
  2. Click on the + icon (top, left) and search for "Taboola".

    If the Taboola widget is not present, make sure to fill in your Publisher ID (above).

  3. Drag the Taboola widget to the desired position in the sidebar (right).
  4. Enter the Widget ID, as provided by Taboola.
  5. Click on Update (top, right) to save your changes.
  6. Browse to your website and verify that the right-rail (sidebar) unit displays correctly.
